Spotting during early pregnancy can be normal.
Before you can understand what to do in the case of pregnancy spotting, you need to know what spotting is. Any spotting or bleeding that is bright red in nature is also a sign to seek emergency medical treatment. You may also experience some spotting if you overextend yourself during the first month or two of pregnancy. You should report any occurrence of pregnancy spotting to your doctor immediately. If you experience pregnancy spotting at any time, you should contact your doctor to report the incident. If your doctor feels the spotting may be normal, he will probably tell you to rest and let him know if the spotting gets worse or symptoms change.
First Trimester Spotting
Spotting, similar to bleeding during pregnancy, can occur at any point in your pregnancy. Spotting is slight bleeding usually noticed when wiping or as slight staining of your underwear. Causes of Spotting During Early Pregnancy
Ectopic pregnancy- Spotting or bleeding during early pregnancy can be a symptom of an ectopic pregnancy. If you experience bleeding or spotting accompanied by abdominal pain or dizziness, you could be having an ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy can be an emergency situation. If you experience sharp pain or bleeding seek emergency care.
A miscarriage may start off with light spotting or bleeding. Other signs of miscarriage include cramping, bleeding and loss of pregnancy symptoms. About fifty percent of women who experience spotting during early pregnancy go on to have a healthy pregnancy.
Implantation bleeding- Spotting during pregnancy may be caused by implantation. Spotting after sex- Blood supply to the cervix is much higher during pregnancy. Spotting after an internal exam- Frequently women will have slight spotting after an internal exam or pap smear. If the spotting continues or turns to bleeding contact your doctor or midwife.
